Seniors Card discounts go trans-Tasman
For a long time, Seniors Card holders have been able to access discounts from participating businesses when visiting other Australian states and territories. From July 2009, thanks to a reciprocal agreement, card holders can access concessions on public transport in capital cities around Australia.
And now, holders of Australian Seniors Cards are able to access discounts from participating businesses in New Zealand too! Additionally, holders of a SuperGold Card (New Zealand's equivalent) can access discounts from participating Seniors Card business partners when travelling to Australia. This arrangement does not include state or nationally funded initiatives such as free public transport.
For details of participating New Zealand businesses, visit www.supergold.govt.nz or phone 0800 25 45 65 (when in NZ).
New Seniors Card coming - Metrocard
Later this year Seniors Card holders will receive a new Seniors Card in the mail. The new card will be issued at no cost and will incorporate smartcard technology, for use on Adelaide's new Metrocard public transport electronic ticketing system.
Seniors Card holders will continue to receive the same concessions and discounts from the many Seniors Card business partners and will enjoy easier access to Adelaide Metro buses, trains and trams. Boarding a bus, train or tram during peak and off-peak periods will be a simple matter of holding the Seniors Card against a validation machine.
Seniors Card holders will continue to travel free on all Adelaide Metro public transport services from 9.01 am to 3.00 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays. At all other times, Seniors Card holders pay around 50% of the fare price.
The new card features a cash-free method of payment for travel during peak times. Seniors Card holders will be able to add credit ($) to their card via several convenient methods and the Metrocard system will deduct the correct fare.
Further information and assistance about the new Seniors Card and the Metrocard ticketing system will be provided in the coming months.
Seniors Card holders are reminded to update their details: phone the Seniors Card Unit on 1800 819 961 (freecall) or xxx email seniorscard@sa.gov.au.
