Aged care and retirement housing

For others a decision may be made to move into aged care or retirement housing for security, support and companionship.

Initially assistance in the home might mean you get the help you need to stay at home. However, if you are considering housing options it's important to understand what's available, how much it will cost and what's included.

Residential aged care

Residential aged care facilities, sometimes called hostels or nursing homes, offer services such as meals, laundry, help with personal hygiene, nursing care and social activities. Facilities vary in style, size and level of care. Information about residential aged care vacancies, with listings in your local area and information about fees can be found on the the Seniors Information Service website.

To organise an assessment to determine whether you’re eligible to enter residential aged care:

Supported residential facilities, sometimes known as rest homes, are self-funded by residents. Services may include personal care, medication monitoring, meals, laundry and cleaning. Retirement homes

Options for retirement homes include retirement village accommodation, residential parks, and rental and community housing
